Eldoret is the largest city in Kenya's Rift Valley region and the unofficial capital of Kenyan running. At about 2,100 metres elevation, it offers genuine altitude benefits while providing the convenience of a modern urban centre: international airport (EDL), shopping, hospitals, hotels, and the Kipchoge Keino Stadium with its world-class 400m track.
Many athletes use Eldoret as a base for sessions on the track and tempo runs on tarmac, then travel up to nearby Iten or Kaptagat for long runs and altitude-intensive blocks. The city is home to Eliud Kipchoge's training group and numerous other elite squads.
